"Are you doing well?" / "Are you okay?"
Simple, but in context — asked by someone who can't be with you — it carries enormous weight.
3. 보고 싶었어요.
"I missed you." (Literally: "I wanted to see you.")
This is the standard way to say "I missed you" in Korean, and it's more poetic than the English equivalent — it's about longing to see someone, not just their absence.
4. 걱정했어요.
"I was worried about you."
In Korean romantic contexts, expressing worry is often a substitute for expressing love. It's a way of saying "you matter to me" without being direct.
5. 제 곁에 있어줘요.
"Please stay by my side."
The 줘요 ending makes this a request — softer and more vulnerable than a command.

Notice how many of these phrases use -요 endings (polite speech) even between people who are clearly in love. In Korean, maintaining polite speech with a romantic partner can actually be a sign of respect and tenderness — not distance. Many Korean couples use 존댓말 (formal speech) throughout their relationship.
6. 당신이 없으면 안 돼요.
"I can't do without you." / "I need you."
Literally "without you, it won't work." This is a strong expression of dependence and love.
7. 행복했어요.
"I was happy." / "I've been happy."
Past tense here is key — it's often used when someone is about to leave or say goodbye, making it bittersweet.
8. 잊지 마세요.
"Don't forget me."
Simple, devastating. The formal 마세요 ending makes it feel like a formal request — as if forgetting would be a violation of something important.
9. 처음 봤을 때부터 알았어요.
"I knew from the first time I saw you."
A classic romantic declaration. The 부터 (from/since) construction is useful in many contexts beyond romance.
10. 사랑해요.
"I love you."
Saved for last because in Korean culture, this phrase is used less frequently than "I love you" in English. When Koreans say 사랑해요, they mean it deeply. The weight of this phrase is part of what makes it so powerful when it finally appears in a K-Drama.
